The picture is me standing in front of my board back in 2011 when I was teaching 8th grade Science on the east side of Tacoma, WA. The students were learning about the conversion from Potential Energy to Kinetic Energy, which is part of the middle school curriculum, but I decided to extend their learning and teach them the “Work-Energy Balance” formula. Most kids would never learn this unless they take a 12th grade level Physics class, and only then if they’re lucky and have a great Teacher who can do it! 😉

Look at me, I’m happy as a clam. lol

This was a note left by a Substitute Teacher who had subbed for my 9th grade Science class back in 2007. This was only a couple months into the school year and as my educational philosophy is to build Leaders, not just teach kids “stuff”, they apparently had been great Leader students for this Sub to have written such an awesome note to me. This note is one of my personal best teaching highlights because we all know how horrible kids, especially 9th graders from a disadvantaged community, can be to their Substitutes. :-)
